Mermaid Memories Cocktail Style: The Destiny of Things, Story 422-425

Mermaid Memories Cocktail Style:  The Destiny of Things, Story 422-425

Honk if you are a baby boomer and remember these on your Shirley Temple!

I just love how these are bringing back old memories as well as making new ones!

I have fond childhood memories of these little mermaids on my Shirley Temple at fancy Sunday dinner restaurants!  I loved taking mine home and playing with them until an arm broke off.  My brother usually got a monkey and the mermaid and monkey would battle until his tail fell off!

But my first memories of them are from my parents returning home from Friday date nights and if they went to the Chinese restaurant, we were allowed to stay up until they got home, just to see which cocktail drink toppers we'd get!

I think these were popular during the Baby Boomer era because they bring back such good memories to so many people!  According to wiki, Baby boomers are the demographic group born during the post–World War II baby boom, approximately between the years 1946 and 1964.

76 million American children were born between 1946 and 1964, representing a cohort that is significant on account of its size alone.  That's a whole lot of Shirley Temples!

Here is a 20 assorted mix of drink and cake toppers, available here

These mermaids bring back a lot of memories for so many and more stories from Etsy buyers are piling up on me and I can't keep them straight in my head, so here goes what's been collected or remember!

Here are some bringing back old memories!

Hello Kennedy,

I just received the package of plastic mermaid drink favors.  They are exactly as I remembered!

When I was a small child in the 60's, my mother worked as a waitress at a hotel.  My father and I would pick her up at work and while we waited for her shift to end, I would have some of the snacks they had and he would have a cocktail.  The drinks always had these mermaids on them and he would give them to me

Fond memories.  I'll use them at our next family get together.

Thanks also for the fun items you added to the package and good luck on the de-hoarding!  I did a clean out this year myself and it feels much better.  Luckily, these mermaids won't take up much space.

I just love getting emails like these with such nostalgic memories and then, the little mermaids are going on to make new ones at family gatherings!  So fun!

Speaking of old and new memories!  My college friends thought this jigger was a shot glass and used it with their favorite cocktail topper while taking a shot and keeping the topper on too!

Hello Kennedy!

My order of 8 mermaids just arrived in my mailbox... in perfect condition! I love all of the extras too, especially the fortune telling fish. I gave one to my mother years ago and she thought it was a hoot! Thank you so very much!

This is actually Dwight's wife, Pat, and the mermaids are for a Secret Santa artist's group swap. They are headed off to England in a couple of weeks, to a lovely woman who likes mermaids, rainbows, tie-dye, vintage, and distressed items. I think she will enjoy them and I will give her a few ideas for how to use them... but maybe she'll make some mermaid art.

I googled vintage mermaids on Etsy and when I came across your listing, I knew they would be perfect. I had forgotten about them, but my sister and I used to get mermaids on occasion in our Shirley Temples (I am 63). Since we were army brats, we used to go to the Officer's Club with our parents on Sunday afternoons and enjoy our special drinks. The sight of your listing brought back so many memories!

So thank you again! I know that I will keep one mermaid for myself and enjoy her swimming in my glass when I feel a bit nostalgic! Hope you are having a super day and I know that your hoarder rehab is making many people happy.

How fun!  These are going all the way to England in a Santa swap!  I think I might be brave next year and try a swap!

The Little Mermaids sell out quickly and we are running low on the stock of candy red with yellow mermaids, so when they sell out, which will be soon.  The above colors will be substituted to complete orders.

"Exactly what I wanted! I had these as a child, given to me by a favorite aunt, but had been lost or broken over time. How delightful to have them back again! They arrived quickly and in perfect condition. So magical!"  Etsy buyer from Hoarder Rehab

Here is another Auntie story!  Lots of fun Aunts!

"Fast shipping i am excited to give these to my aunt as a Christmas gift after she told me a story of how her dad used to get them for her and she had saved them but lost them while moving"  Etsy buyer from JunkDraweAndMore

"My vintage mermaid drink topper set arrived safe and in a timely fashion. They were wrapped/packaged very well as to prevent damage during shipping which I really appreciate very much. They are exactly as described and pictured in it's listing. These bring back childhood memories for me and are colorfully vibrant. I am quite pleased with this purchase and just love them! I would buy from this Etsy seller again and would recommend them to anyone as well. Thanks! :)"  Etsy buyer from The Destiny of Things

Here are some making new memories!  Some with photo updates!

"My under the sea themed wedding could not be complete without a personal mermaid on everyone's cups. So happy with the product"  Etsy buyer from Hoarder Rehab
30 or 50 or 100 Little Mermaid Peter Pan wedding anniversary champagne retro cocktail drink wine charms cake toppers, available here

"Will go perfect on the mermaid theme cupcakes"  Etsy buyer from The Destiny of Things

"Fun retro drink ornaments. Will look great with the stripey straws and fruit picks. Just a good festive addition for a party!"  Etsy buyer from JunkDrawerAndMore.... I would have loved to see a photo of these with the whole shebang of stripy straws and fruit picks!

"So cute used them as drink markers for our daughters birthday it was mermaid & pirate themed! Thank You!"  Etsy buyer from VintageToGoEasy

Here are some monkey drink  or cake toppers below.  I've notices that many are having Mermaid or Pirate parties lately or Jack the Monkey parties.  Didn't Jack Sparrow have a pet monkey on his shoulder or am I getting it mixed up with Pirates of the Caribbean?

For 2017 until supplies last, these will be the new colors for monkey and mermaids, available in 20 count here
For the party animals in us all!

I love to get notes about Etsy buyers using them as soon as they open their order!  Love all the new memories being made!

"Okay...these are so fun! I have one on my wine glass right now....love them!!"  Etsy buyer from Hoarder Rehab

"I love these mini mermaids!!!! I used one as soon as I got them! Thank you for the sweet note and little extras you sent! I will definitely be ordering from this shop again!"  Etsy buyer from The Destiny of Things and here's a photo of it on her drink of the moment!

photo via Etsy buyer from The Destiny of Things

Many Etsy buyers like to order the little mermaids in all green, mostly I think for Peter Pan themed parties and weddings.

"Love my mermaid wine glass toppers! I will be using them for a gift for my Peter Pan obsessed sister. They will be sitting atop a Peter Pan wine glass the perfect touch! Very satisfied with this purchase and the excellent service that accompanied it. Thank you!! :)"  Etsy buyer from The Destiny of Things

All green mermaid drink and cake toppers available here

Saying Goodbye:  I have my own stash of these in all different colors, like light pink and sky blue, mainly vintage ones.  Actually I think I have 2 shoe boxes of vintage ones stashed away for my mixed media art that I've been collecting for years now!

What I Learned:

1.  Being in wellness mode for several months was so worth it for my allergies, sciatica and lower back pain, but not for my blog, shops and dehoarding!  I sure do have a lot of catching up to do!

But I am so thankful that so much of my hoard has become popular "dehoard" meaning I can have tons of them to share with others!

2.  This holiday season, there was so much gluten free, dairy free baked goods that I did not control my sweet tooth very well and my body is not used to so much sugar and I've been basically in a food coma with tons of brain fog!

I am going to really limit myself with sugar for this coming New Year and then Chinese New Year and Valentine's because I just don't like how I feel well with so much sugar.  I feel like I wait all day to wake up to no avail and everything else seems to be going in slow motion! lol

I think I'm going to try to make some gluten free, dairy free and sugar free baked goods soon, like cornbread with pineapple pieces and sweet corn in it for sweetness  and perhaps dates and fig pieces instead of sugar for my quinoa chocolate cupcake recipe, etc.

Thank you Etsy buyers from all 4 shops, VintageToGoEasy,TheDestinyofThings, JunkDrawerAndMore and Hoarder Rehab for letting me know your plans for these and leaving such kind compliments!  So fun for me!  Also very inspiring and motivating for me to continue on my Hoarder Rehab journey!

I just love how these bring back old memories while making new ones!

Thank you Etsy for the best Hoarder Rehab ever!  And for all the kind people I'm meeting who are helping me indirectly and directly in so many ways with my Hoarder Rehab!  I've been gleaning so much insight about my hoarding ways.

The never ending winter holiday festivities are catching up to me!  I still feel like I've gained 20 pounds and moving very slowly!  Now I need to rest up and get ready for the New Year's festivities!  and then the Chinese New Year festivities!

I have been relisting almost daily and started new listing too!  So check out the shops now for new things!

Fortune Fish & Fortune Cards Fortune Teller Office Party: The Destiny of Things, Story 417- 421

Fortune Fish & Fortune Cards Fortune Teller Office Party:  The Destiny of Things, Story 417- 421

Both are so fun to pass out during parties and weddings!  and much more!

6 to 30 Twilight Zone Swami Madame X fortune teller machine cards, available here.  Photo via Hoarder Rehab

The above are new old stock from vintage cafe diner Swami or Madame X Penny Fortune machines that not only dispensed your napkins but a fortune too!  So fun, I used to save up my pennies just to get see what Swami had to say!

The diner is long gone, but memories of thrifting with my brother along Orange circle and having lunch at the cafe and wait patiently until we got a booth with Swami was well worth it and just swell!

Anyways.... these fortune fish tellers are just as fun too!

Since I was in wellness recovery mode from September to December, stories have been piling up and getting mixed up in my head, so I'm trying to catch up and lump some all together, so others can get different ideas and get inspired by how Etsy buyers use these fun items.

Here are some of the notes I received:

4 about the fortune fish:

"These are a lot of laughs! My husband did it...his fish was all over the place, curing/ turning, wiggling...for me - same fish - no movement...maybe a little tale flap> My husband said I'm a "cold fish!"  ha ha ha"

"So cute. The guests will love these !!!"

"Fast shipping plus its of little cute extras! Will use for my art, gifts and snail mail - Thanks!!"

"Super cute! Using these as the "fortune teller" at my wedding. Great communication, fast shipping, and came with the most adorable little package of extras. Love!!"

The back of it's bag has the information of your love fortune by how your fish moves in the palm of your hand.

4 about the Swami Madame X fortune teller machine cards:

"Shipped super fast and exactly as described! Perfect for Halloween party favors at my office. I plan to surprise my coworkers w their fortunes! Thank you!"

Halloween may be over and it's too late for New Year's, but who doesn't love their fortune told at any office party or other parties, like Valentine's, Chinese New Year's, even St Paddy's or Mardi Gras!

"Perfect for a Twilight Zone party I hosted!! Thank you!"

"Looking forward to having some fun with these cards - they are awesome. Thanks!!!"

"Love it!! Thank you so so much :)"

Saying Goodbye:  I keep my own stash of these for "thank you" packaging orders from all our shops and for snail mail and card inserts.  They have become what I call my "rehoard" because they have become such popular items at all our shops that I can keep a hoard of them!

What I Learned:

1.  I've always wanted a Swami penny napkin machine, but settled for my own complete set of these fortune card slips.  Yes, they come in complete set, like a deck of cards!  52 different fortune cards to collect and more!

They come in 4 different suits, like a deck of cards, hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs with 13 characters for each suit, King, Queen, Jack, Ace and 10-2.

I've noticed the aces have have at least 2-4 different fortunes for each suit, so there's plenty to collect!  Unfortunately, I do not think a stack of 500 has a complete set in them, but maybe they do now because each stack seems to be different.

Order a complete set of 52 fortune cards here

2.   These would be fun to pass out at any party!  Halloween, Christmas, New Year's and next Valentine's!  Kids and everyone young at heart love these both!  They will bring back memories for the older crowd and make new ones for all ages!

3.  I'd love to see how the one Etsy buyer uses them in her art!  I haven't seen the fortune fish used in art yet.  I can see how it would make a great gift wrap topper or gift insert fun!

4.  I would love to see how they are used at a Twilight Zone party too!  As table confetti or party favor bag filler, pinata filler or a mini garland?

5.  One of the reasons, I started to collect fortune teller items to give away in my "thank you" packaging is because I really have no idea what the future holds for a recovering hoarder like me!  and mainly because each time I make them, it reminds me of how much better my life is now with dehoarding and how the "now" and my future is already so different and I have no idea what my life is going to be like without my hoard!

How would you like to use these fun fortunes?

Here is what a complete set of 52 looks like stacked by suit.

All the holiday festivities are catching up to me!  I still feel like I've gained 10 pounds and need to rest up and get ready for the New Year's festivities!  and then the Chinese New Year festivities!

I tried to limit my holiday sugar intake, but with all the gluten free and dairy free baked goods these days, it was hard to pass up such holiday treats this year!

Tooth Shaped Loose Tooth Holder Necklace: The Destiny of Things, Story 416

Tooth Shaped Loose Tooth Holder Necklace:  The Destiny of Things, Story 416

Remember these?  For all your toothless grins!

5 or 10 sweet tooth fairy locket necklaces, available here

Here is the sweet note I received:

They are gorgeous! Exactly what I was looking for, fast shipping and incredible customer service. Thank you so much!

These went all the way to New Zealand!  She ordered enough for her two children, one of kinder school age and the rest to give to his teacher for the rest of his class!

We chatted over several emails and she decided the tooth necklaces over the treasure chests, which to me, as a recovering hoarder is a very difficult decision! Ha!  As a teacher, I could never decide which ones for my classroom and always had both on hand!

I know almost every teacher would love to have extras of these on hand because one never knows when a tooth will fall out and it's so much more fun to put the lost tooth in one of these, instead of an envelope!

If you order 5, they come in random mixed color necklaces, but all will have a little star pony bead inside that rattles around like a tooth fairy's tooth, mermaid or pirate's lost tooth!
5 or 10 sweet tooth fairy locket necklaces, available here

Saying Goodbye:  This reminds me, I have made a mini tooth box and used these as foot stands for the box that also doubles as a secret treasure holder.  Maybe I'll make another one soon!

What I Learned:

1.  Here is another example of my teacher hoard destash becoming a popular item at our shops!  They are used in the traditional way for children to hold their tooth before nightfall and the tooth fairy comes to claim it, so it won't get lost.

Others have used them as cup cake toppers for her mom's sweet tooth party!  with candy sprinkles inside.

They've been used as molds to make silver locket jewelry.

You could get fancier and add glow in the dark pony and heart beads for a special, "DIY First Loose Tooth Necklace" while everyone waits in anticipation! or order one here, that's all ready to ship off!

2.  They could be used as a garland for a dental office if you strung them all together!  or even during dental hygiene week in the nurse's office or your favorite teacher's classroom bulletin board!

3.  They make cute surprises in Countdown Calendars for birthdays or Valentine's, Cracker snap bon bon trinkets, surprise balls, my faovite things parties for children or the young at heart and so much more!

How will you use yours?  However, they are used kids and young at heart love them because they are so fun!  Who can resist a tooth that opens!

Here are the treasure chest tooth holders that give me such a dilemma as to which ones to give out!  so I end up giving out both!
6 or 12 mermaid, pirate, king, queen, prince or princess treasure chests, availabl here.  Photo via VintageToGoEasy

Thank you New Zealand Etsy buyer from JunkDrawerAndMore for letting me know these got to you safely and your son was happy to have them in his school bag for his loose tooth and wanted to give the rest to his teacher!  Your son is as thoughtful as you!

All these stories and ideas really help me stay on track with mine.  They inspire and motivate to continue with my hoarder rehab!  So much so, I've been spending more time in the music art room dehoarding it and organizing boxes and getting ready to list more in 2017!

I think I gained 10 pounds from all the holiday meals and treats!  I am still meditating for at least an hour first thing in the morning before my day gets too busy and it has helped me rid me of my sciatica and lower back pain.  With no back pain, I can do gentle yoga twice daily now and take a long walk too!

DIY Pokemon Birthday Party Favor Capsule Balls: The Destiny of Things, Story 415

DIY Pokemon Birthday Party Favor Capsule Balls:  The Destiny of Things, Story 415

Many Etsy buyers are so creative and patient!  BEFORE:

50 or 100 empty gum ball capsules in mixed colors, available here
photo via Hoarder Rehab

Here is the message I received:

Thank you so much. I used them to make "poke" balls for my sons Pokémon birthday party. They were perfect.

She painted all 50 and turned them into these Poke ball cuties!  AFTER:

So creative and what fun and patience to have painted 50!
photo via kind Etsy buyer

I wonder how long it took her to paint all 50 into Poke balls and I wonder what they were filled with and if they were used for just party favors or table confetti and/ or pinata filler?

Another time, I wish I had been a fly on the wall to see someone so happy at his Pokemon birthday party with these!

Here is 100 empty gum ball capsules, available here
If you need less or want all one color or mixed party theme colors or team colors or holiday colors, Etsy email us and we'll tell you what's in stock.
These sell out fast, so sometimes we have a lot in one color for a period of time and then other times not.

Saying Goodbye:   These have become another popular item at our shops and I call them my "rehoard" sales.  I would have never thought that my gum ball collection would have become one of our best sellers!

10, 15 or 20 Empty gum ball capsules in all pink, available here

What I Learned:

1.  Etsy buyers use these for all kinds of different ways!  From jewelry shipment containers to jewelry box organizers.  Bead organizing too!  Some have made fairy lights and fairy flower lights.

DIY Fragrant Jewels Bathbombs with a mystery ring that will float to the top in your bath!  Another Etsy buyer puts little art and things inside for their charity drive gum ball machine!

Barbie Fantasy Hair Display Centerpiece, Apple Bento containers for lunch boxes, Cat Rattle toys and more!

2.  They've been used for Ninja Turtle themed birthday parties, all blue for Batman themed parties and Etsy buyers have ordered all pink and all yellow and of course, I wish they had let me know what kind of themed parties for pink and yellow and what they've filled them with!

Perfect for fiesta parties as pinata fillers, carnival and circus themed parties and classroom school rewards with filled with eraser caps.

I am just too curious!  What would you fill yours with?  I've used mine as cupcake toppers and filled with different cupcake sprinkles for those with allergies or staying away from excess sugar, like with nuts or dried berries or different candy sprinkles or even a tiny prize for those that need sugar free, gluten free, dairy free cupcakes and toppings.

5 or 10 Ninja Turtle colors or primary colors in empty gumball vending machine capsules, available here

 3.  I use mine for jewelry packaging shipment.  These capsules are practically indestructible and I am so surprised as how much they hold.  I send rings, earrings, bracelets, pendants, charms, religious medals and necklaces.  Plus I think it's such a fun novelty to get something in one of these!

For me, it brings back such happy memories and makes new ones too!

4.  I've used them for the grand prize middle of surprise balls, in cracker snaps and advent calendars, so small things don't get lost.

5  I use them for bead and sequin organization and stash them in a clear shoe box for easy access and visibility.

20 or 25 or 30 gum ball vending machine capsule amounts, available here

Thank you Etsy buyer from Hoarder Rehab for letting me know your plans for these and sending an update photo!  You must have so much patience for painting 50 of these and turning them into poke balls for your son's Pokemon birthday party!  Kudos to you!
