Love to Fish Fortune Telling Fish Wedding Favors: The Destiny of Things, Story 182

Love to Fish Fortune Telling Fish Wedding Favors:  The Destiny of Things, Story 182

Do couples still go out fishing these days?  Yes and they'll be using these as wedding favors!

An order of 150 fortune telling fish fun!

This person emailed me and requested an order of 150, so I added it to the listing options and she kindly emailed me back saying she was so excited!  I had to know why!

Here is the note I received:

We are going to use them as favors at our wedding reception! We love fishing and I just love how unique these are.

Very fun and inspirational note and I had forgotten all about how I loved to fish too!  I'm guessing these are a young couple, since they probably haven't seen these before and since they called them "unique." Which is so cool because "fishing" doesn't seem to be a young couple past time anymore.  I have great childhood memories of going fishing with my grandmother and dad, but stopped around high school.

That was decades ago!  and haven't thought about fishing for decades either!  Anyways, I'm so glad young couples still go fishing and thought about returning to fishing for about one second myself, until I remembered all the fishing hoard I'd be buying for two to go fishing again!  I guess I don't love it that much and only love my fishing memories!

How to use:  You take the fish out of the bag, place it on the palm on your hand and it will magically start moving, if it doesn't, then you can read the back of the bag and it will tell you.....

Saying Goodbye:  Popular items like these fish at our shops is what I call "rehoard."  I used to use these in my classroom as a fun way to introduce magic during Halloween, which was just a fun way to really study science.  After I retried, I found a hoard of them in a box and listed them and a new story began!

I'm feeling cranky today, so I'm trying to write this as quickly as I can.  I don't know if I'm cranky because I haven't slept in a month and a half due to the heat or if it's because we haven't had hot water since Saturday and it's still not going to get fixed today!  My heart does go out to all the people in Florida and Texas, at least I have running water!  And I send good thoughts and prayers.  I have plenty to be thankful for, when I think about all they have lost and must be dealing with at this time.

On the bright side, the cold showers do remind me of childhood camping, which then reminds me of trout fishing in Yosemite and bass fishing at Lake Powell.  I've been taking camping showers for 5 days straight now!  The type where you get wet, turn the water off, lather the body and shampoo the hair and then turn the water on again to rinse off.  Reminds me of the KOA showers where you'd put a quarter in and get water for 3 minutes at a time!

What I Learned:

1.  Oh and before I forget, these fish were featured on BridalGuide.  Thank you Mary!  If you need 25 Fun Halloween wedding favor ideas, you can find the fish and other finds, here!  Happy Inspiration!

2.  Sleeping definitely affects my health.  Many of my health issues have returned, like wanting to hoard stuff again, insomnia and the dreads, actually the dreads are minimal now and crankiness has taken it's place, which in my mind is progress and a few new ones have sprouted up, like vertigo and a weird feeling I get on the left side under my ribs, like something is stuck at a curve in my intestines.

3.  Most of the day, I spend on distractions, blog posting is one of them, to keep me from hoarding and lookie loo shopping.  May days are not a pretty picture and quite frankly draining.  I've been looking into solutions, like nutmeg oil to soothe my insomnia.  In this heat, I already sleep with a cold ice pack wrapped in a wet towel to cool down enough to fall asleep.

4.  My decision making has become very blurred and it's hard for me to see where overthinking and indecisiveness begin or end and they are appear to be Siamese twins that seem to have taken over my life!

5.  Perhaps I'll just get sick of it all and be able to throw it all out!  Well, I mean donate it all.  Lately, I've been having thoughts of my hoard disappearing some how and starting all over with nothing!  Where is my magic wand when I need it?  Poof presto, hoard gone!  Is that the insomnia talking? or maybe, as a recovering hoarder, I'm finally making sense and it would be much faster progress.

Let's change the rambling subject to "do you like to go fishing?"  Have you caught a good one lately?

Thank you Etsy buyer from VintageToGoEasy for bringing back the excitement that I have for these fish too and for fishing!  Best wishes and Congratulations to you both!

Everyday is such an adventure dehoarding on Etsy!   I never know who I'll meet and I have met so many Etsy buyers who share their stories with me and every time I glean some insight about where my dehoarding journey is taking me.

Speaking about my dehoarding ways, in my last post I could not decide if I needed a break of not, from dehoarding and decided to keep on dehoarding at this time try and throw away some stuff and donate other stuff to quicken the pace!  I am so proud of myself!  More on that soon!

I finally threw out into the recycling bin stuff I could previously not throw out!  like toilet paper rolls, which were a coveted teacher supply when I was teaching because in the classroom we used them in so many ways!  My last batch of them is listed here, for holiday cracker snaps and other classroom projects.

Thank you Etsy for the best Hoarder Rehab ever!  And for all the kind people I'm meeting who are helping me indirectly and directly in so many ways with my Hoarder Rehab!  I've been gleaning so much insight about my hoarding ways.

I'm back to new listing daily at least on one or two shops! until I reach my goal of listing 180 at all the shops!  I've met this goal on VintageToGoEasy!  Yeah!!!!

Our sales are still fluctuating, we used to get about 24 sales per week, but this week seems to be waning, like last week, even with an extended 2 week Labor Day Sale.  How are your sales going?  How did your Labor Day sale go?  More on that next posting, since I didn't get in this posting, like I thought I would.

Anyone out there have any suggestion or ideas on how to use the new Etsy format and new Etsy Studio to their shop's best advantage?  and if it has helped bump up your sales?

Not My Antique Leather Justin Clutch from the Early 1900s! The Destiny of Things, Story 481

Not My Antique Leather Justin Clutch from the Early 1900s!  The Destiny of Things, Story 481

This bag took a whole lot of effort and procrastination to let go to it's new home!

Just when I thought I was over the pain and suffering of letting go of my hoard a piece comes along and tests me!  This is the piece!

I've been thinking about why, why why for the past week or so and I still haven't the faintest clue as to why this bag tugs at my heart and brings tears to my eyes as I let it go....

It's going to a great new life to someone who is going to use it and that usually does the trick, but not this time.

Here is the note I received about it:

Hi! It is going to a good home:-) I collect Vintage purses and I use them!

Here is what I wrote back:

Hi again!

Thank you so much for the reassurances and giving this a good home, as a recovering hoarder, your last note makes letting go much easier. So nice to know someone will be using it!

Kind regards,
Kennedy

I know in reality that's how I'm supposed to feel, but today I just don't.  I do feel better that someone is going to use this bag because I never did, at least not as a purse.  I had it displayed on a wall with all the rest of my vintage and favorite purses.

As a matter of fact, for someone with a purse collection, I find it strange now that I am not even a purse person.  Well, I was, but only if it was Louis Vuitton and then when I got over LV, I just went back to carrying stuff in my pockets and now I use a backpack that turns into a purse.

Here is what I use now, but mine is all black:

This convertible bag is the best, especially when I got somewhere that doesn't allow backpacks, like the MOCA, plus it has that big zippered pocket on the outside, another one in the inside, a detachable key holder, an open pocket for a cell phone and another open pocket I use to hold a fold able grocery bag, a small book, pen and notebook.
Mine is all black with a canvas top and leather bottom, I sure wish Mims still made these because I'd get another one, but without the leather bottom because it does get heavy.  I just did a search on it and the shop is now, roughandtumblebags, but I did not see this style, but I didn't look at every bag.

I guess I'm distracting myself with my latest bag to procrastinate on this one!  So why do I find this one particular bag so difficult to let go?

Like I said before I've been thinking about it for a week and here is what I've come up with:

1. because it was a sale item and I don't think it sold for enough?

2.  Since it's a gift from my aunt, my issues letting go of unused gifts has returned?

3.  I haven't slept for a month due to the heat and it's giving me what I call the "dreads"  and right before I get the "dreads" it triggers something in my brain that wants me to start hoarding again and then that leads to wanting to keep all my hoard of hoards? plus add to it?

4.  The purse is a symbol of some deeper meaning I can't fathom yet and it's eating away at me?

None, nor all of those seem to hit the nail on the head and I don't want to keep thinking about it, even though I try and stop, so I'm just going to do my best and let it go in my next meditation session!

This purse was given to me by an Aunt and she received it from her mother-in-law who was a DAR member, Daughter of the American Revolution. The inside is embossed with Justin Leather Co. with the numbers: 98009 The metal part of the purse is dated with: PATENTED OCT 5, 1915 MAY 15, 1917 JULY 23, 1918

Saying Goodbye:  This was very difficult to let go and I procrastinated about it.  First I felt some fret for putting most everything at all the shops on Etsy's Labor Day Sale.  Then someone asked for more pictures of this purse's condition because it had some slight unraveling in two places, but since five pictures were only allowed on Etsy years ago, the original five photos didn't show the condition well, only the front, back, front close up, inside and the embossed information.

So I dug it out of it's box for more picture taking and I saw what storage can do to leather!  And I realized it's close to the first batch of things we listed, so it's been for sale for, let me check, close to 5 years.  Oh my, has five years gone by and I still have this purse?  I think in "hoarder time" five years feels like five minutes!

Anyways, after I dug it up, I saw it needed some tlc, tender loving care, like a clean up and oiling and then I got some ideas on how to use it as a prop, small antique pendants would look good displayed on the middle front of this bag!  And from there my little hoarding mind went on and on.

And that's when the procrastination started.  I decided to lower the price even more and if it didn't sell after the Labor Day Sale, I'd let it go for even less to the kind person who asked for more photos of it's condition.  And I think that's when the woe's came in and started to nest in my heart, when I knew I had to let this go finally.

What I Learned:

1.  Just when I thought it was safe for me to leave behind my hoarding ways, it returns?  So after 5 years, I still have issues with my hoard?  That's okay, it's taken me several decades to get into this hoarding habit and I'll be lucky if it only takes me half that time to get out!

Back to the drawing board and I'm pretty sure that it starts with my lack of sleep for a month because at first I just wanted to lookie loo shop to keep myself awake during the times I felt like taking a nap, which was pretty much all the time and then I started making a list of my favs and then prioritizing them, so I wouldn't buy it all and then it just turned into my wanting to start hoarding all over again no matter what, as long as I thought it was cool stuff!

I still feel that way too, but the consequences of adding more to my hoard gives me a stomach ache because I can't see myself on Etsy forever.

2.  As I mentioned in my last post, I did try the Etsy Labor Day Sale and as a recovering hoarder that wasn't easy either, the thought of my precious items leaving too fast in my latest dire hoarder condition, didn't sit with me well.  So putting them on sale was daunting, scary and gave me a stomach ache.

However, the way Etsy has one way to set up (or at least it's the only way I could figure out) and list the sale or any sale for that matter in an over and over process, so the more I listed each shop by category, the easier it got for me as a recovering hoarder and since I thought Labor Day was at the end of August, I have relisted again for another 2 week sale at each shop, just to get over the daunting, scary anxious stomach ache feelings.

I forget what kind of therapy this is called, but from what I remember it's doing the same stressful thing over and over until I become immune to it or am no longer resistant or affected or influenced by it.  Most of the time it's still stressful, especially in the beginning, but it does become less stressful over time.  And for me hoarding time seems to be in incriminates of five years, but it's also taken me several decades to hoard like I do.  I am thankful I'm doing something about it now.

3.  Another thing, I think I ramble a lot when I don't get enough sleep.  It's been cooler now, so for the past 3 days, I've gotten some half decent sleep, yet due to some other health issues creeping in, I'm wondering how many days it's going to take me to catch up on my beauty rest and be back to normal.  Normal as in without dreads, not rambling and without wanting to start hoarding again.

If this purse doesn't sell, I've got a crazy idea of something to embroider on it that also has to do with one of my creeping in health issues, but maybe that's the lack of sleep talking.  Old velvet fan purse with teal silk lining and fresh water pearl petals and garnet bead middle, available here.
I was told this was an antique from the late 1800s and I bought it in an antique mall in Long Beach, Ca in the 80s or 90s, so it might be a Victorian style mourning purse.  I bought it to match one of my black outfits with my velvet black hat, but ended up not using it.

Thank you Etsy buyer from VintageToGoEasy for letting me know that you collect vintage purses and best of all, you'll be using this purse.  I'd love to  know how you use it!

Everyday is such an adventure dehoarding on Etsy!  Even though today, I feel like I need a long vacation from it all.  I never know who I'll meet and I have met so many Etsy buyers who share their stories with me and every time I glean some insight about where my dehoarding journey is taking me.

Speaking about my dehoarding ways, I am going to maybe take a break, but I'm very conflicted about it and thinking about it makes my head spin!

I'm still relisting daily and taking my time listing new things until I feel better and get some sleep, so my goal of listing 180+ items any time soon again, at all the shops has pretty much gone down the drain!

At least our sales are up most of the time, but this week seems to be waning, even with an extended 2 week Labor Day Sale.  How are your sales going?  How did your Labor Day sale go?  More on that next posting.

Here is the note I received:

These will be used as a wine charm on my martini glasses, which will have a olive cake ball in the glass as a take home favor. I am doing a 007 Bond party for my husband

Of course, I'd love to see her final product and am wondering if she is serving the Casino Royale Martini.  Which brings back memories of when I used to drink!  I did try "one," just "one" because Blue Sapphire gin, vodka and lillet used to be my favorites and always had them on hand, but I didn't like them all mixed together as a CR martini.

So James Bond walks into a bar......

Esquire printed the following update of the recipe in 2006:
Shake (if you must) with plenty of cracked ice. 3 oz Tanqueray gin, 1 oz 100-proof [50%] Stolichnaya vodka, 12 oz Lillet Blanc, 18 teaspoon (or less) quinine powder or, in desperation, 2 dashes of bitters. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and twist a large swatch of thin-cut lemon peel over the top.
The recipe concluded, "Shoot somebody evil."

Saying Goodbye:  My love for miniatures, especially mini guns is waning, like my love for more hoard.  Although, while wandering around for a new adventure,  I've been finding myself on some blogs that have beautiful pictures of kitchen items and food recipes that inspired me to get the "same" things in my kitchen and start cooking recipes that take more than 3 steps!  Yes, I've started shopping again, but so far am only looking......

What I Learned:

1.  Maybe cooking is my next adventure?  and I need all the beautiful cook ware I see on other people's blogs?  It doesn't hurt to "just" look, so I've become an expert at becoming an online serial "lookie loo" shopper with a gazillion tabs open until my computer crashes!  Better than having an empty wallet, but my clenched fist is giving me cramps!

2.  I think I prefer eating and shopping for all that stuff!  Time to rethink or move on to my next adventure!

3.  Have I been gone from the blog this long?  Are all of July and August blog posts going to stay empty and non existent from this year forever?  that's a hard reality for me to fathom because I really have nothing to show for it, except wandering around looking for my next adventure on other people's blogs trying to get inspired....and....what else.....let me think....

For the past couple of months, I can't decide whether to keep restocking these or not, right not it's "not" Get them while there hot!

4.  Treading water as best I can to stay afloat with all the Etsy changes, including joining the first ever Etsy sale this Labor day, staying hydrated and cool in this hopefully last heat wave of the summer, dealing with a new health issue that sprouted up from eating too much watermelon by day and ice cream by night, during the month of July, even if it was So Delicious cashew or coconut milk ice cream.  I think it was all the sugar consumption.

Oh and in July, I found the most delicious gluten free organic cookies ever by Wholesome Chow!  We tried lemon and Snickerdoodle and lemon was by far the more tasty and I ate one with breakfast, lunch and dinner for a week or two! We were celebrating a milestone with all our favorite childhood foods that we could find gluten free and organic.  We ended up calling it, "the food parade!"

Maybe that's where the whole month of July went, it was one long food parade that flew by into August without me even noticing.

Is anyone else out there in the first ever Etsy sale to celebrate Labor Day?  Unfortunately, the rules weren't clear enough for me and I got locked into a two week sale, that I can not change, except on Hoarder Rehab, that will last another 2 weeks as planned or shorter if as a recovering hoarder, I can not tolerate the stress, even though I'm doing my best to figure out my conflicting feelings about it all, so our Labor Day sale ends on September 2, 2017 on all the shops, but Hoarder Rehab.

Over anxious me didn't check the calendar and thought Labor day was the last weekend in August due to the building anxiety over my hoard vs a sale and how long I could manage a sale with hoarder's anxiety creeping all over me, maybe that's why I've now become a serial lookie loo.  Having my own sale is a hoarder trigger for me?  More on that in the next posting.

I'm relisting daily and let go of my goal of new listing with 181+ items at all the shops because I was spending all my time trying to figure out how I could and then could not extend or add items to the first ever Etsy sale, until I figured I was locked in after August 22.  Locked in meaning, I could only change the sale dates and items before August 22 or at least that's what I think, maybe someone else out there knows more?

For instance, since the sale, buyers are asking for larger custom amounts, like these guns, but I don't know how to list it using the first ever sale format and end up making a reserved listing to use the pricing of the first ever on sale items.

The other confusing thing for me about the sale was that some buyers were charged the sale price and other's were not, so I'm guessing that Etsy was running another experiment and only some buyers could see the sale?  I can't use any more brain power trying to figure out all the new changes to Etsy and I'm just going with the flow now.....

Anyone out there have any suggestion or ideas on how to use the new Etsy format and new Etsy Studio to their shop's best advantage?  and if it has helped bump up your sales?
