Day of the Dead Centerpiece Lady Guadalupe Fiesta Vase or Candle Holder: The Destiny of Things, Story 440

Day of the Dead Centerpiece Lady Guadalupe Fiesta Vase or Candle Holder:  The Destiny of Things, Story 440

An Etsy buyer saw these at a restaurant and had to have them!

Cobalt blue Lady Guadalupe or Virgin Mary vase candle holder, available here

He was so happy to have found them in blue and red!  And I am so happy they are finding a good home and new life!  Thank you!

Here is the centerpiece vase or candle holder in red, available here
photo via JunkDrawerAndMore

He wanted them in brown or clear, but I've never seen in that color.  These are from my Mexican Folk Art collection.  I had these in sets of 8 in each color for my repetition art, but now that I'm dehoarding, I'm letting them go.

Here is the photo he sent me of one he wanted in brown:

Good thing I've never known these to come in brown or clear, otherwise I'd have them too!  However, now as a recovering hoarder, I think I can pass them up!
I see he's going to be using his as a candle holder.  I use mine both ways!

Saying Goodbye:  I just love Mexican Folk Art, which seems to have been branded as Day of the Dead or fiesta now.  I used to make a lot of religious Mexican folk art and loteria card art back in the 1980s to 90s.

My 1980s to 90s religious Mexican Folk Art.  Ever since I saw a banner full of milagros at the Mengei in San Diego, I have been collecting milagros since that time too!  The garden milagro helped me turn my black thumb into a green one, available here.  Lover's cross, available here

What I Learned:

1.  As a recovering hoarder and repetition artist I am just starting to really see how my collections get so "out of control!"  I've always known it and could see my hoard, but I guess it's now finally sinking in and gradually finding solutions and other alternatives to handle my anxiety.

Today a good friend reminded me that "awareness is a place of growth."  Today has been one of those days!  I am so thankful for that!

2.  I gave up coffee, buying non food items and fried foods for Lent and I started to wean myself from coffee about a month or two ago, so that's going all right, but my fried food cravings are sky rocketing!  I'm trying to replace it with organic roasted teriyaki sea weed, it's working somewhat and I hope will work by the end of Lent!

I haven't bought anything hoard related or art related in a couple months and the stuff I did order, has either arrived broken or hasn't arrived, so when I get my refunds going to donate that money to charity.

We take all our feral cats to Fixnation for a check up and neuter, so I'm going to give them a thank you and donation.  And another to a clinic, who provides low cost walk in health care.

What did you give up for Lent and how are you doing with it?

One of my alternatives to hoarding is making art!  These also make a nice addition to a table centerpiece.  (Example more towards the end) Here is my Frida Kahlo loteria card art, inspired by her painting, "Wounded Deer" and her last painting of Viva la Vida watermelons, which translates to "Go with Life," available here

Thank you Etsy buyer from JunkDrawerAndMore for taking the time to share your story!  I was so curious, how you found them in brown and clear and wanted them in those colors too!  but I'm practicing impulse control and am thankful I didn't have to go looking for some!

I thought I was the only one who found items I see and love at other places and have to have them!  I'm used to asking people where they got their cool haircut or clothing or whatever I find fascinating!

Thank you Etsy for the best Hoarder Rehab ever!  And for all the kind people I'm meeting who are helping me indirectly and directly in so many ways with my Hoarder Rehab!  I've been gleaning so much insight about my hoarding ways.

An Etsy buyer is using them to complete her wedding table centerpieces too!  Available here, photo via The Destiny of Things

I am still trying a new experiment on Etsy and listing items until I got to 180-185 items listed on each shop, but Etsy has introduced a new format, which I'm really excited about!  So I've been working daily going through each listing using the new format.

It's taking me longer than I thought to change everything using the new format.  I think it's going to take me another week to complete, so wish me luck!

My Frozen Charlotte Porcelain Penny Doll Collection: Today's Hoarder Rehab Epiphany #11

My Frozen Charlotte Porcelain Penny Doll Collection:  Today's Hoarder Rehab Epiphany #11

A request from another collector through Etsy email!

This is half of my Frozen Charlotte and Frozen Charlie Penny Doll collection.
The Charlottes are on the left and the Charlies to the right.
Request it and I'll list the one you want on my Etsy shop.
The black wooden display shelf is already available here
photo via VintageToGoEasy

Someone who mainly collects Frozen Charlotte dolls asked if I had any photos of my doll collection.  I didn't, so last weekend we took some photos of them.  Please forgive the lighting, it was very rainy and cold the day we took these and the room with the best light doesn't have any heat, so I worked as quickly as I could.

Here is the other half of my collection.  It's not the complete collection because some are scattered around the house or boxed and ready to ship from the shops.

I was collecting the same dolls for my repetition art, at the time I had grand ideas for them!
You can get a better look at the Dutch boy here and  Weatherbird Dutch girl here at our shop, VintageToGoEasy

I lost count at 50, but probably have about 100.  Many have already found new lives and good homes!  Here are some close ups:  Ladies first!

I think I'll be letting go of all the single ones, so all the girls with the red bow I'll be keeping for my repetition art.

Sweet looking boys!  The Putz style boy and girl duo who look like they are waiting for a parade to begin are listed here with the he Dutch boy here and Weatherbird Dutch girl here at our shop, VintageToGoEasy

Oh no, the top shelf got a little camera shy.
The two kokeshi dolls are part of my doll and stationary collection.  Their bottoms unscrew and inside is a scroll of paper to write a letter.  I have two newer ones that are similar and one of them came with the tag to send through snail mail!  Luckily I didn't get too far on my kokeshi doll collection!

Close up of the camera shy!

Fraternal twins?  Her arms are some where in the photos!  Anyone spy them?

I think I prefer the arms over the unjointed dolls!

Two little cuties, all dressed up and no where to go!

7 Little Bo Peep for my repetition art.

 Anybody interested in instant triplets?

Personally I like the broken dolls, but they are just as expensive as the unbroken ones, so some of these I was going to take a part and use or break them myself.  Very very difficult for me to break them.  It's like getting up enough nerve to cut into some new fabric without a pattern!
The wooden figurine that's way in the back, left hand side, of a country girl doing her chores is available here at our shop, VintageToGoEasy

My favorites are the little tiny wee threesome to the very right!  I noticed many of these don't stand up too well on their own.  I thought it might be because I was so cold in that room and was losing patience, so if they are lying flat they either don't stand so well on their own or some have the tacky stuff on the bottom of them, so they don't fall over while displayed during an earthquake.

I'd love to make some clothes for the jointed ones and use them in my mixed media art.  Writing this post has been inspiring for that!

What I Learned:

1.  I have more ideas in my head and art supplies and need to take the time to use them!  For instance, today I feel like removing the paint off the ones that have some of the paint rubbed off them already and repainting them in neons, or giving them a more updated look or rosy cheeks!

2.  I also have these cute clear little coffins saved up as boxes to display all seven Little Bo Peeps.  I was looking for clear boxes or shadow boxes, but the little coffins were within my budget, so I need to find the coffin boxes again!

This little doll head I use lot!  So maybe I'll start mix and matching the heads and bodies!

Here she is again as a prop!

Thank you Etsy shopper from VintageToGoEasy for asking if I'd share photos of my doll collection because it really has inspired me to do "something" with them now and hopefully others will find a new life and good home for them too!

I also love these pink plastic dolls, if anyone out there has some of these, I'd be willing to trade!

Who wants to take a bath first?

The washi tape art in the background is available here at our other shop, The Destiny of Things

I'm almost done with changing all the listings at each shop using Etsy's new format.  Phew!  I  think it'll take me about two more days to finish up.  YIPEE!  Then I'll start new listing again!

Her husband is going to have a grand party because I've already lost count on how many of these gold guns she has ordered to add to the invitations!  So many friends and family to invite and celebrate!

How exciting and fun!  When the time comes, I think I'll have a James Bond 0070th themed birthday party too!

These modern James Bond guns are our most popular of them all and sell out quickly too!  In gold or silver, available here.  Photo via JunkDrawerAndMore
Today we have many sets of 10 in this style ready to ship out!

Saying Goodbye:  I have my own stash of these put away, but I wonder how many I'll need for my 70th birthday!

Here is what the silver ones look like.  I see a revolver sneaked into the photo!  Your order will have 10 of all the same type of classic long barrel 007 spy guns!

What I Learned:

1.  In my last post, I was ready to give up my hoard in a purge or at least I felt like it, but today I'm not so sure.  If I think of my Etsy shops as my Hoarder Rehab I am fine with it, but if I think of it as a job..... I tend to get conflicting feelings, so I'm going to focus on it being my Hoarder Rehab!

Very interesting how just a little shift in my thinking makes such a big difference!
2.  Also, we hope to move in a year and I can't imagine taking all this stuff with me again!  Another interesting thing I've noticed is the more I can change my thinking about why I hoard or what my stress triggers are, the less I feel attached to my stuff!

Photo via JunkDrawerAndMore

3.  For instance, if I think of my purpose in life, it's not hoarding and I know hoarding is not going to help me get the things I want out of this life.  Even though hoarding is such a comfort to me and is probably protecting me from some fears or other negative feelings I carry with me from my past or worries I had about the future.  In the end, I can't take it with me.....

And in the end, I don't think I'll be thinking, oh, I should have bought that one last thing!  This kind of thinking has helped me a lot.  Thank you Wayne Dyer and Louise Hays!  However, it is like a tug of war because changing old thought patterns isn't as easy for me as I thought it would be.

I am gentle with myself and remind myself that my hoard wasn't built in a day and changing my thoughts is going to take time and will happen when I'm fully ready to let go..... of whatever I need to let go.

4.  It's okay, if I'm feeling a little confused or conflicted about my hoard because it reminds me to change my thoughts and to remember my goals and focus on my purpose.

5.  Lastly, I'm determined to improve my health and am giving up several things to help my body to heal during Lent and beyond, which starts today, March 1 and ends, April 13.  I've given up coffee, fried foods and my stress related retail therapy for better health and self restraint!

I've been preparing myself for Lent for about a month now and have been cutting down on my coffee intake to half a cup every other day and skipping my stress foods and/or favorite foods, like organic potato chips, fried chicken and french fries.

We already juice fast 3 times a week, but I'm wondering if we should go traditional Lent this year?  I'll have to read more about it later after I finish this posting.

What are you doing for Lent today? or doing to better yourself, health and discipline today?

Thank you Etsy buyer from JunkDrawerAndMore for taking the time to share your story!  I was so curious, wondering how many guns were going to be ordered all together and what their purpose was going to be.  They will definitely add some bling to 0070 invitations!

Guardian Angel Holy Prayer Card: The Destiny of Things, Story 438

Guardian Angel Holy Prayer Card:  The Destiny of Things, Story 438

Nice to hear someone is using this as home decor!

BOTH REVERSIBLE Guardian Angel St Michael Saint medal charm pendant & Holy prayer card, available here, choose medal only or both.

This is one of the prettiest Holy prayer cards I own!  And someone else loves it too for their new son's bedroom decor.

Of course, I'm wondering if it's wall decor now or is it placed in a nicho or alter or shadow box.  And if it's wall decor how did she incorporate it all.  With the medal or just the card or what?  Hmm..... so curious!

Saying Goodbye:  At this moment in time, I feel like saying "Goodbye" to all my hoard and moving on with my life!  However, I am not sure what would happen if I just took it all to be donated.  Each time I've purged, I feel good about it for a bit and then I don't and start hoarding again!

Close up view of the reversible religious medal, one side has the Guardian Angel and the other side has St Michael, as you can see, both sides are marked Italy.
Choose either the religious medal only or both the Guardian Angel Holy card with prayer on the back and the medal, available here

What I Learned:

1.  Are my hoarding days over?  Have I changed my thinking and ways to handle stress and anxiety enough to discover a different path and not return to my old hoarding habits?

However, I did have some family anxiety and went straight to ordering some retail therapy in the guise of art supplies!

So I don't know.  I do know that I think the Universe or Infinite Power of the Divine or God or however you call it, has been sending me not one, but two strong message that my hoarding days are over because I ordered 2 packages worth of items on Etsy and....

One package came not as described because the shop owner put 2 orders that were both 8 x 10 items in one 6x6 box.  It was very disappointing to see such beauty damaged to fit into a box too small for it (I paid 8 in shipping, so I thought they were going to arrive in an USPS Regional A box.  There was more drama too, but not worth writing about it!) and another sad thing was to have to pack it bent up so it would fit back in the same box it came in and mail it back to the shop for a full refund including shipping both ways, but that was Etsy's decision and I'll see if I get full refund for shipping both ways, as Etsy said we would.

My other order has not arrived from overseas and it's been a month and a half, so I'll wait two full months before asking for a refund.

Both were art projects related items, like supplies, but probably over a Benjamin's worth, so the silver lining is I'll just save that money when I get it back! and use what I have for art projects!

St Michael medal with Police Officer's Prayer card, available here

2.  Etsy has been an interesting fun adventure and has provided us with one stream of income.  (I think it's best to have as many streams of incomes as possible) I retired many years before the normal retirement age and have been living off my other streams of income, but soon another stream of income will come of age, so I'm trying to decide if spending time on Etsy is how I want to spend my time anymore.

But what to do with the rest of my hoard?  Such a dilemma, more on that next time!

St Patrick's day is coming soon!

Thank you Etsy buyer from Hoarder Rehab for taking the time to share your story.  I would have loved to see how you used it for your son's bedroom decor! Thank you for reminding me of how I wanted to use these cards and for giving me and others inspiration and fun ideas!

This is one of the idea projects that have been rolling around in my head.  Simple way to frame a Holy prayer card between 2 pieces of glass and use washi tape at the corners to hold it all together.  That way it can be double sided and one can enjoy both sides of the card.

Also very motivating for me to continue on my Hoarder Rehab journey and to keep trying different things and other ways to solve my challenges until I find alternatives to my hoarding.

Thank you Etsy for the best Hoarder Rehab ever!  And for all the kind people I'm meeting who are helping me indirectly and directly in so many ways with my Hoarder Rehab!  I've been gleaning so much insight about my hoarding ways.

An Etsy buyer requested 20 St Michael cards with the Policeman's Prayer on the backs, so we made these replicas, available here.  The prayer is old school and is not politically correct anymore, but amusing, you can read the prayer in the description.

I am trying a new experiment on Etsy.  I think we were selling more when we had 180-185 items listed on each shop, so I'm doing my best to list new things again until I reach that goal!
