DIY Day of the Dead Loteria Art Decorations:  The Destiny of Things, Story 403

I don't know how long I've been saving this story!  BEFORE:

Thanks for the loteria cards and the nice note. Your project sounds really cool. I used your cards to line antique crates that we used in our new bar. Hope you enjoy my interpretation :)

I just love her interpretation!  What a cool creative collage idea!  Makes beautiful backgrounds inside crates!  Love this as bar decor!
 
Now I received this note last year in October and was saving it to use as a Day of the Dead story for this blog, but I forgot.  Then I was going to use it for a series of Day of the Dead starting this September, but then our suppliers ran out of the loteria game and we had to find another supplier.

Back in the 80s, I used to use this loteria game in the classroom to teach cultural diversity and compassion because most of my students were Spanish only speakers and learners and a small handle full were English only learners, so playing this game in Spanish was a way to turn the tables from being in an English language environment to having fun in Spanish!

Later I would take the game home and make crafts usually small to large nichos and ofrendas and turn the cards into garlands and art.

Saying Goodbye:  I have tons of cards and game boards stashed away for myself and my crafting now.  This game comes in different variations and sizes, so I use them for different crafts and have a lot of fun with them.

Here is one of my latest projects of making the large sized game boards into gift boxes and the mini loteria game boards into art for the nicho ofrenda shadow box.

What I Learned:

1.  My aunt who loves Mexican Folk Art and has a huge collection has influenced me to love it also!  I started collecting milagros back in the early 80s when they were very difficult to find, after she took me to the Mengei museum's Mexican Folk Art show back in the early 80s.  I've been collecting Mexican and Religious Folk Art every since, but can no longer do so.

2.  Unfortunately, due to my allergies, I can't hang my loteria nicho art in my house as much anymore because of all the dusting it takes to maintain them.  I used to have a hallway full and used the smaller ones as decor around door ways!  I wish I had taken photos of them all.

3.  Lately, my allergies have been acting up and I've been waking up with a mysterious rash every morning that starts itching from annoying to intolerable!  Lots and lots of Vitamin C and deactivated charcoal helps to reduce it to tolerable and I've been investigating as to what is the source of the allergic reaction by checking all soap formulas we've been using because sometimes they change one ingredient and my allergies start to act up again.

I think it might have been a chemical reaction to a fragrance of some sort from running the errands the other day because after one errand, I felt dizzy, but I thought it was because I needed to have lunch, but after I had lunch and took a shower, I was itchy, but it just felt like dry skin itchiness.

4.  Long story short, I still don't know what caused it, but I get very tired by the end of the day using all my concentration to not scratch and hope I don't wake up with it tomorrow morning!

5.  And speaking of sleep, I'm sleeping again and a lot.  I just figure I'm catching up on decades of lost sleep, however I can't get as much done in a day anymore due to sleeping 8 to 12 hours a night, but I'd rather be sleeping and healthy than finding stuff to occupy my time when I'm half awake from lack of sleep.

 Our new supply of this game has some slight differences from our last supplier, for example, two of the symbols are different, the card corners are not rounded, the backs still have the riddles in Spanish, but are brown, rather than white and the thickness of the game boards and cards are a little lighter, so we lowered the price too.  Loteria game set:  includes 10 game boards and 54 cards, available here

I am still in Etsy burn out mode and am baffled as to what I should do about it.  Does it mean my dehoarding days are over?  Am I ready to dump it all at a donation center?  Am I ready for a new adventure? but what?
 
So I put myself on an Etsy diet to focus more time on my self care, feel less guilty about sleeping more, which means doing less on Etsy and having more time to find the cause and solution for my mysterious new allergy rash.

The position I was offered to join an educational children animation program kinda fizzled out when I heard "making lesson plans, recruiting teachers who want to make lesson plans and get paid with credit on the show, and finding teacher organizations that I could pitch the show too."  
 
I am still negotiating that position, hoping for something more fun and more behind the scenes.  Wish me luck with my meeting this week and hope my allergy rash doesn't flare up!
