Welcome to our local fascinating interesting coffee shop that thrives on nourishment, community and culture. Enjoy gf, vegan and conventional pastries, like churro donuts and guava cream cheese squares. The churro donuts are vegan and gf, but not organic and are from @hellocakegirl in Boyle Heights!
They also support Homeboy Industries baked goods and their house brew is organic, but I haven't tried it yet, since it comes hot and it's been killer heat waves over here. I did try their churro donut and it was delicious. I should have taken a photo of it, but I'm not used to taking photos of my food yet.
Definitely try the vegan gf churro donuts! They also have vegan gf lemon blueberry scone, but I haven't gotten there early enough before they sell out!
This month's art theme is the Sun and three of my pieces are on display. One is a larger textile mixed media applique quilt block from my Inner City Alphabet Quilt, called "Sun and Moon, Ying Yang of Time."
The second one is a smaller quilt block, which was my first time trying out reverse applique, which was inspired by Latin American mola's. It is called, "Sun Burst, Love Burst, What is Love?"
The third piece is a Milagro Garden mixed media art cross, called "Under the Sun: Reminders on How to Turn a Black Thumb to Green." One the top of the cross it has a sterling silver bench to remind myself to enjoy my garden by resting in it. The bottom of the cross has an enamel snail to remind me to take my time and that all nature's creatures are connected to us, no matter how annoying!
The cross is painted black and the bottom is painted gold as a reminder that no matter how dark or hopeless, if I look deeply in stillness there is always light, even if it's just a crack of it showing through. There's so much symbolism on how I turned my black thumb into a green one, but that's another posting of it's own.
Here are photos from last month's, July art gallery, Independence theme, inside Holy Grounds:
I love the large abstract paintings too and the block print art on the other wall. Even the couch and couch border are so interesting! We tried to get better photos of it all, but it was so busy with people moving and difficult to get clear photos. My piece, "Independence FROM Fear" to the far right.
This is the cozy nook inside the coffee shop. Sorry, not the best photos, but these are the only three turned out. I tried to figure out who the other artists were, but I did not see any information listed. I would have loved to know their stories and how they related it to "Independence!"
I would have loved to know who the wood artist and other artists are! Next time I hope! You can see my piece, "Independence FOR Love" to the far left.
"Independence FROM Fear" can be seen at different angles with more photos with dimensions and more about the piece, here. Guardian Angels have certainly protected and helped me be a survivor through the years! How have they helped you? Let's meet over coffee and swap stories!

Let me know when you'll be around some time this August and I'll meet you at Holy Grounds or if you are an introvert like me, just send me an email and let me know what your experience was like! hoarderrehab@gmail.com
We can talk about it there or not, or email about what we've survived to become independent from fear and each silver lining! (Independence FOR Love!)
I'd love to make a new friend!
Special thanks to Eddi Ortiz from Holy Ground Coffee and Tea for your wonderful curating! Hope to see you there! Thank you for visiting my Hoarder Rehab and The Destiny of Things!
