Halloween Pumpkin Head Containers: The Destiny of Things, Story 255

Halloween Pumpkin Head Containers:  The Destiny of Things, Story 255

It's so  nice to make someone's day!

small pumpkin containers - SOLD OUT

I  bought these last year for Halloween decor and to give out with candy to trick or treaters, but no one has come the last two years, so off they went to someone who was really happy to have found them too!

She was so happy she told me that she scoured the internet looking for these and finally found them with me!

 photo via JunkDrawerLoveEtsy

Here is the email she sent when I asked her how many she needed:

Well, I own a business in a very small town in Northern California. It's a combo shipping/mailing/gift store. I want to do a really cute trick or treat thing for my customers that have kids. We did something similar at Easter (but with 200 eggs!) where there are prizes for the kids AND the moms :). I have looked hi and lo for little pumpkins like this!

I hope she only needed 24 this year!  I did buy a lot of Halloween items last year and this year I bought nothing, so I hope I am not going from one extreme to another because I really do need to find a way to balance my holiday shopping.

I still have a lot left from last year too, so maybe this year there will be some trick or treaters!

Saying Goodbye:  I didn't even save one of these for next year, since the Etsy buyer needed every last one!  I did find my Halloween desk decor from my teaching days, so I suppose that will be my annual Halloween decor from now on!

What I Learned:

1.  My health issues are still taking it's toll, so I'm resting a lot.  Not much I can do with uncomfortable allergy reactions and back pain, but continue daily routines as best as possible while adding in more healthful ones.

2.  I seem to do a lot of window shopping to pass the time comfortably and it's very very difficult to pass up bargains with health issues.  I don't have the same resolve as when I am healthy.  The winter holidays are coming and it should be interesting how I handle my annual winter holiday stress this year, which is usually by shopping, shopping and shopping!

3.  I have been buying arts and crafts supplies, so I feel like I'm squirreling away enough to have art projects as an alternative to winter holiday stress this year.  Only time will tell!

I'll need to think of something fun to do with these!

Thank you Etsy buyer for being so happy and enthusiastic about finding the pumpkin head containers, so glad they all left at once and will make some children smile somewhere in Northern California!

Thank you Etsy for all the fun and kind people I've been meeting on my Hoarder Rehab journey!

Thank you US, UK, Turkey, China, Denmark, France, Poland, Russia and many others for taking part in my HoarderRehab and The Destiny of Things!

My new goal is to keep list at least 200 items from my hoard on each shop for the Christmas season!  I've already met that goal at The Destiny of Things, Hoarder Rehab and VintageToGoEasy!  I'm going to try and list new hoard daily at each shop until I reach my new goal.

Intestine Gum Transplant Container and 30 Coroner Tag Stickers: The Destiny of Things, Story 254

Intestine Gum Transplant Container and 30 Coroner Tag Stickers: The Destiny of Things, Story 254

I love these mini organ transplant gum containers!

This gum expired April 2014, but if you'd like them for the containers
Let me know because I found more in my own stash!

I bought these for the containers and gave away the gum before it expired.  I used mine to hold homemade  hand sanitizer gel, but these don't close tight enough, so I only use mine for the night stand, kitchen nook and desk.  It leaks for travel use.

Organic Hand Sanitizer Recipe:

1/4 cup Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gelly

one splash of Humphrey's Organic Witch Hazel

5-10 drops of tea tree and lavender oil, I used a half of splash of Thursday Plantation Tea Tree Antiseptic Solution that has soothing lavender already in it.  It's not certified organic, but it didn't give me a reaction, even over time.

Mix all with your finger in a small glass container.  Mine turned a pearled moonstone color.

It smells surprisingly good and feels creamy soft without lotion residue gunky feeling.  I might add a dab of organic coconut oil and see if it works as a daily lotion.

I keep the main mixed batch in a glass jar and put some in the mini transplant containers to leave around the house.

This gum expired April 2014, but if you'd like them for the containers
Let me know because I found more in my own stash!

Here is the email I received:

Oh no, those blood bags were perfect! :) His theme is Zombies inspired by the Michael Jackson Thriller video. We will be doing a Zombie walk etc. I was looking to add the bags as decoration on the candy/treat table that I want to match his theme.

How cool is that!  A Michael Jackson zombie themed party with the zombie walk!  Listen and relive Thriller on Youtube, here

The blood bags sold out quickly and were quite popular.  Several others have requested them too.

Saying Goodbye:  I am moving away from my love of novelty fun items and moving towards vintage millinery and textiles.  I have been collecting vintage fabric and Japanese textiles all my life.  I suspect the millinery has to do with my Grandmother.  I was just a teeny tot when she went to florist school and ended up with all her supplies.

And as a child, I remember helping my Dad choose corsages for my Grandmother's and Mom for special occasions, like birthdays, Mother's day and weddings.

Coroner name tag stickers, available here

What I Learned:

1.  Again it seems I have a lot more ideas about what I am going to do with many of my collections, rather than what I actually do with them.
2.  It seems I overbuy for parties and art projects, which I suppose is okay because I'd rather have a few extra, rather than someone feeling left out, which probably comes from my past teaching days.

I do seem to need a surplus to create for reasons I haven't figured out yet.

3.  I have not been well lately and it seems that my health issues tend to allow for more online window shopping time, since I'm supposed to be resting and I'm a little concerned what will happen with this year's winter holiday stress with my huge wish list building up.

I am also supposed to be spending less time on the computer and more time taking care of myself, so I've been weaning myself slowly and preparing myself with a different "to do" list, getting more sun, doing gentle yoga and art projects.

Thank you kind Etsy buyer for letting me know about your themed birthday party for your son!  It's helped me to see how my novelty fun collection gets out of hand!  And how some containers might look fun, but aren't really that practical.  And buying in bulk probably isn't the best thing for a recovering hoarder to do!

Thank you Etsy for being the best Hoarder Rehab outlet ever!

Thank you US, Poland, China, UK, Australia, Canada and many others taking part in my HoarderRehab and The Destiny of Things!

My new goal is to list at least 200 items from my hoard on each shop by December for the Christmas season!  I've already met that goal at The Destiny of Things, Hoarder Rehab and VintageToGoEasy!  I will continue to add new listings next week or if I feel better this week.

Tooth Saver Locket Necklaces: The Destiny of Things, Story 253

Tooth Saver Locket Necklaces:  The Destiny of Things, Story 253

All I want for Halloween is my two front teeth!  Past memories making new ones!

photo via Hoarder Rehab
tooth locket necklaces in red, green or pink available here

I received the cutest note:

LOVE these! My daughter is wearing hers all the time hoping a tooth will fall out soon!

It's little note like these that put a smile on my face and take me back to a time when little trinkets like these meant so much that I never ever took mine off either or used them until they fell apart!

My students would do the same!  They wore them day and night until the tooth locket's little hinge broke and even then they'd keep them in their pockets.

I can just imagine her daughter running around with her tooth necklace on wiggling her tooth knowing that when it falls out she won't lose it because she has a tooth saver ready!

Saying Goodbye:  I have my own stash of these now, but my first hundred were left over from my teaching days and have long gone.   I have mine saved in mind for my mixed media art!

What I Learned:

1.  I've loved these since our dentist used to give them when he stopped giving candy for making it through an appointment.  Once I started teaching, I gave them to my students whenever a tooth fell out for safe keeping and to everyone during National Dental Hygiene Week.

I don't remember when it was but when it arrived it came for teachers and students in a huge box with toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, chewable red tablets and a pamphlet in cartoon form with daily activities for a week on how to properly brush, floss and nutritionally take care of your teeth.  It was so fun!

At the beginning of the week, I'd give these tooth locket necklaces and at the end of the week, I'd give the tooth saver treasure chests.  Many would hang both on their necklaces too!  One of our biggest classroom debates was over the tooth fairy!  What memories...

pirate tooth saver treasure chests available here

Thank you Etsy buyer for bringing such good old day memories and so nice to hear some new memories are in the making!  I hope someone has a toothless grin soon and a tiny tooth in their tooth necklace while singing, "all I want for Halloween is my two front teeth!"

Thank you Etsy for helping me connect to some wonderful people who enjoy the same childhood trinkets as I do!

Thank you US, China, Canada, UK, Netherlands, Pakistan, Ukraine and many others taking part in my HoarderRehab and The Destiny of Things!

Halloween Day of the Dead Skull Head Eraser Tops: The Destiny of Things, Story 252

Halloween Day of the Dead Skull Head Eraser Tops:  The Destiny of Things, Story 252

These work for Halloween and Day of the Dead! or a Pirate party!

skull head erasers in assorted fiesta colors, available here

I couldn't resist and bought these!  Of course, I had a project in mind for them too.  I was going to add some paper flowers, rhinestones and googly eyes to their heads and turn them into sugar skuls for my Day of the Dead art shrines, but they were too big and didn't fit inside them.

Here is an example of my Day of the Dead art:

None of these were deep enough for the skull head erasers!  Bummer!

An Etsy buyer bought them for her pencils around the house and to give to little ones when they stop by for a visit!  How fun!  My students loved anything Halloween and I was used to buying them items like these to add a little sunshine to erasing any small or large mistakes!  There is nothing wrong with a mistake when you can erase it!

skull head erasers in assorted fiesta colors, available here

Saying Goodbye:  I have my own stash of these saved for a rainy day.  I do have more nichos lost somewhere in my hoard, so maybe these will fit in them when I find them!

What I Learned:

1.  I think I'm over buying little things just because I think they will be good in a craft project without actually checking to see if they'll fit!

2.  Also think I'm over buying things just because they remind me of my teaching days!  Rationally, I know I'm not teaching anymore nor will most likely ever return to teaching (knock on wood cross my heart stick a needle in my eye if I do), but my heart still loves to buy all the little kitschy fun classroom stuff and I think I might bend my excuses for buying them into art projects!

Now that's a recovering hoarder mind battling it out for a win to buy!  However in the long run, I must remind myself that in the end, all of the newly bought hoard can end up as a loss with just more hoard cluttering up everywhere!

This does look like a small harmless amount to me, but they only came in bulk amounts!
and not one fit in any of the nichos I found!

Thank you Etsy buyer for sending in your story because I realized so much today! And hope in the future I can limit my bulk orders, so I can end my hoarding cycles.

Thank you Etsy for helping me find new lives and homes for over 945 hoarded items! I think it's finally making a dent and progress can actually be seen now!

Re-Animator's Herbert West Syringe Pen Halloween Accessory: The Destiny of Things, Story 251

Re-Animator;s Herbert West Syringe Pen Halloween Accessory:  The Destiny of Things, Story 251

I've loved these since childhood!

Green, yellow and/or blue syringe pens with black ink here
Red syringe pens with red ink here

My pediatrician always had one his lab coat pocket.  At the doctor's office, I remember my mom setting me on the little shelf and ringing a bell and a frosted window door would slide open and my mom would sign a waiting list on a clip board with one of these syringe pens tied to it.  Peeking in I remember a whole cup full of these in the receptionist's pen holder.

However, this Halloween, these green syringe pens are going to make some completely different memories!  Here is the note I received:

This Halloween, I plan to go as Herbert West from Re-Animator. I have been searching for a safe and fun replica needle (preferably filled with green liquid). Etsy is my favorite site to browse and shop because you never know what treasures you may find. These pens are so cute and perfect for my costume! Thank you so much!

How much spooky fun, is that!  Maybe you are like me and have no clue or ideas about Herbert West from Re-Animator.  I googled it and it's a cult movie from 1985 from HP Lovecraft's short story from 1922.  Hmmm.... I see it's on netflix too.  I think I've found our Halloween night movie!  Just add popcorn!

Green, yellow and/or blue syringe pens with black ink here
Red syringe pens with red ink here

Saying Goodbye:  I have my own stash of these and personally like the red syringe pen with red ink!  Guess which pen I use to write my "thank you" note with each order?

What I Learned:

1.  Here is another item from my childhood that seems be growing in popularity.  Other items are the fortune fish, plastic toothy tooth locket necklaces, tooth saver treasure chests and gumball machine capsules.  Click on the highlighted words and it will take you to them at one of our Etsy shops.

2.  The upside is that I'm getting all my childhood novelty items a chance to wear off and not be so in the moment "have to have" instant gratification fear of missing out mixed feelings happening as a regular occurrence.  The down side is the shops are getting so busy now, I have little time for using them in my art.

These sold out so fast back in July and the Etsy buyer said she was wondering if she could wait til Halloween to give them to her grandkids!  I wonder is she held out or not.....

As soon as I find my Martha by Mail soap kit in my hoard, I hope to use these in some soap!  I just loved Martha by Mail and didn't buy nearly as many kits as I should have!  Oh my, did I just say that?

photo via JunkDrawerLoveEtsy
glow in the dark zombie or witch fingers for one hand or two, here
As a teacher, one hand of these were enough for me and they are also fun to give away!

Saying Goodbye:  I just love stuff like this and I think it's from my Dad being in charge of games and prizes for his association's annual picnic!  This kinda stuff would sit in our garage for weeks and we were not allowed to touch til the picnic!

There were carnival like game booths and all kinds of races to play in and everyone got consolation prizes!  I thought some of the consolation prizes were better than the winning prizes!

What were some of your favorite carnival toy prizes from childhood?  Mine were the live goldfish and the little rings with shiny rhinestones in them!  I had to have my birthstone!

What I Learned:

1.  Much of my hoard stems from my childhood.  I just can't seem to get enough from novelty toy prizes from days long past!  I hope that changes soon and I move on to something else.

2.  I seem to buy what I think I'm going to use in a project one day.....and sometimes it doesn't work because the supplies seem to just pile up, but in some cases it seems to work because if I don't end up doing the art project planned at least I can let go of the supplies to upgrade to better ones.

For example, last year most of my Day of the Dead Mexican Religious Folk Art sold and I was able to buy more Mexican Folk Art wedding milagro necklaces.  I used to think I would take them apart and remake them into something else, but now it seems that would be difficult for me to do.

Also, I love certain kinds of Dresden paper ephemera from Germany and the newer ones from England.  Before I just loved them all, but now what I've been buying is more specific. so soon you may seem me listing some of my old Dresden paper ephemera that I've been collecting since the 80s to buy my special heart's desire specific ones!

And I had tons of other collections going on, but most of them are gone or are in the process of being let go, but the list is long and can be seen here

Thank you Etsy buyer from JunkDrawerLoveEtsy for leaving your story to help me with mine!  Of course, I've already played with my pair of eyes in the dark.  Mine I have hit the ceiling many times and bounced off of who knows what!  I wonder if you are still holding out for Halloween...

Thank you Etsy for your continued support towards my Hoarder Rehab via all four shops!

Thank you US, China, Ukraine, France, Germany, Canada, Australia, UK, India and many others for your visits this past week.  Due to technical difficulties, insomnia and an allergic reaction to soy I am still on the mend, but functioning at minimal levels.

My new goal new is to list at least 200 items from my hoard on each shop by December for the Christmas season!  I've already met that goal at Hoarder Rehab, The Destiny of Things and VintageToGoeasy!  I'm going to try and list new hoard daily at each shop until I reach my goal.

Little Red Fortune Fish: The Destiny of Things, Story 249

Little Red Fortune Fish:  The Destiny of Things, Story 249

I never thought these would be so popular!  Just like they remembered!

photo via Hoarder Rehab, Fortune Fish available here
frame available here

Just like I remember them too!  I received an email saying just that and that some treasure hunters are going to just love them too!  I am always so happy to know that it brings back memories for some and will make new memories for many!

photo via Hoarder Rehab
Fortune Fish available here
So I'm beginning to notice that some of my hoard has turned into a good thing and I'll keep supplying popular items until no one orders them anymore!  I never thought that would happen with anything in my hoard!

photo via Hoarder Rehab
Fortune Fish available here

Saying Goodbye:  I keep a good amount these stashed because they are part of my "Thank you" packaging that goes out with each order.  When I first started my Hoarder Rehab journey, it was like taking a step off a cliff into an abyss, but on a more positive note, I had to constantly remind myself that it was just a small baby step into an unknown future and my life was mostly likely going to be better without my hoard!

And if it wasn't?  Well, I would remind myself it would be so easy to return to my hoarding ways and it was an open option, but why not try dehoarding and see what happens?

So these fortune fish and other fortune ephemera and such are symbols for me and a thank you to you for helping me let go of every order!  The package is changes every once in awhile, but basically some things stay the same.

Some fortune ephemera that reminds me that it's okay and not so scary to leave hoarding behind into an unknown future!  Each order I package with the above is a reminder of where I might be headed and also give thanks to one more item I've let go to it's new life and home!
photo via VintageToGoEasy, available here

What I Learned:

1.  I think I'm possibly starting to see a future without hoarding.  Another thing I didn't think possible, so I suppose blind faith from leaving hoarding behind into a unknown future is beginning to take shape now!

So I suppose it's time to see if this new direction is just a phase or something longer lasting than a passing thought.
When was the last time you gave up a really bad habit way of life and put blind faith into an unknown future?  And how did it turn out for you?  Perhaps enough hoard has left for me to see more clearly now!

Thank you Etsy buyer for your story because it has seemed to give me insight into a peek of future life without hoarding!

Thank you Etsy for helping me dehoard over 876 items and counting!
